Qualcomm's Dr. Paul E. Jacobs Will Deliver 2012 International CES Opening Keynote

October 4, 2011

Qualcomm’s Dr. Paul E. Jacobs has been chosen to deliver the opening keynote at the Consumer Electronic Association’s 2012 International CES on tap Jan. 10-13 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Jacobs' keynote will be part of the Technology and Evolving Countries (TEC) Program at the show, which focuses  on the role mobile technology plays in global innovation and economic growth in consumer electronics.

His keynote will be held Jan. 10 at the Venetian Resort-Hotel-Casino following a state of the consumer electronics industry keynote address delivered by Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of CEA.

"Qualcomm's more than 25 years of wireless innovation is driving growth of next-generation mobile technologies that connect people around the world," Shapiro said.

He added, "We look forward to hearing Dr. Jacobs' latest plans for Qualcomm and his strategic vision for the future of mobile technology."

Dr. Paul E. Jacobs was named CEO of Qualcomm in 2005 and was appointed chairman of the company’s board of directors in 2009.

Since joining Qualcomm in 1990, he has spearheaded Qualcomm's efforts to develop and commercialize mobile technology breakthroughs that have contributed significantly to the growth of both the company and the industry.

Noteworthy developments that began under Dr. Jacobs include the first smartphone, the inclusion of GPS capabilities in mobile phones and the creation of the Snapdragon™ processor.

"The dramatic growth of smartphones and tablets and Microsoft’s support of Windows on ARM-based processors firmly establishes mobile as the computing platform of today," Jacobs said.

He added, "Emerging countries are now adopting mobile technologies on a huge scale. This creates tremendous growth opportunities in the consumer electronics and computing industries around the world. Qualcomm is helping drive these opportunities through our Snapdragon processors and other mobile innovations."

The TEC Program at CES focuses on technology's critical role in enabling economic, social and political empowerment opportunities for evolving countries and their citizens. Additional TEC sessions will be announced later this fall.

Jacobs joins other confirmed 2012 CES keynoters including Microsoft's Steve Ballmer, Ericsson's Hans Vestberg and Daimler's Dr. Dieter Zetsche. Additional CES keynotes will be announced later this fall.
