Messe Frankfurt's Light+Building Snags a 7-percent Increase in Attendees to 196,000
Billed as “The World’s Biggest Trade Fair for Lighting and Building Services Technology” Messe Frankfurt’s biannual Light+Building drew a whopping 196,000 attendees in late April to the Frankfurt Fair and Exhibition Centre.
Attendance at the 2012 event was up 7 percent, compared with the 2010 show, which drew 183,111 attendees.
The increase in attendees came nearly as much from abroad as they did from inside German, with 44 percent coming from overseas, according to Messe Frankfurt show officials.
“Light+Building is the world’s biggest trade fair for energy efficiency. Accounting for 40 percent of the total, buildings are the world’s biggest consumer of energy and, therefore, play an important role for smart grids and decentralised energy supply,” said Wolfgang Marzin, president and CEO of Messe Frankfurt.
He added, “The very good result shows the extent of worldwide demand for environmentally friendly light and building-services solutions – and that Light+Building is the foremost meeting place for the industry and decision makers. As we learnt in many discussions during the fair, the results exceeded the sector’s expectations.”
After Germany, the 10 leading countries at Light+Building 2012 were The Netherlands, Italy, France, Austria, China, Great Britain, Switzerland, Belgium, Sweden and Russia.
There also was significant growth in numbers from North and South American and Asian countries, such as India, South Korea and Japan.
In addition, the sold-out showfloor had an increase of manufacturers, with 2,352 showing off their products at this year’s show, compared with 2,154 at the 2010 event.
Exhibitors also gave the show high marks, with 86 percent saying they “had achieved their goals for the fair,” according to show officials.
Several associations that support the show, including the German Association of the Electrical and Electronics Industry (Zentralverband Elektrotechnik- und Elektronikindustrie e.V. – ZVEI) also gave the show positive reviews.
“Light+Building 2012 has more than fulfilled the expectations of the ZVEI association,” said Friedhelm Loh, the association’s president.
He added, “The large number of visitors and the high quality of visitors make us optimistic that the markets for lighting and building-services technology will develop positively over the coming year. The energy-efficient technologies to be seen showed that the shift to the new energy paradigm can be successfully accomplished using the expertise of the electrical-engineering industry.”
Besides a packed showfloor, attendees also took part in ‘Buildings as power stations in the smart grid’ special show, the Building Performance Congress and the Trend Forum.
The next Light+Building will be held March 30-April 4 in Frankfurt.
