September 9, 2015

The inaugural China Homelife and China Machinex shows recently kicked off in South Africa.

Chairman of Meorient International Exhibition, Eric Pan, welcomed all Chinese exhibitors and Southern African buyers to the inaugural shows saying, “Meorient International Exhibition is thrilled to be bringing the shows to South African soil for the first time.”

He added, :Fairs such as China Homelife and China Machinex create opportunity for buyers to source quality products directly from Chinese suppliers and manufacturers, further increasing trade between South Africa and China.”

The two shows brought together top buyers and Chinese exhibitors, showcasing a wide variety of products across eight product segments namely; Hardware and Tools, Building Materials, Home Electronics & Appliances, Textiles and Garments, Furniture, Lighting, Escalators and Elevators as well as Power and Electricity.

China Homelife and China Machinex form part of the global series of events which take place in nine countries. The fairs so far have welcomed visitors from not only South Africa, but also from Botswana, Namibia, Mozambique, Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi.

The first official China – South Africa Economic Forum and the South Africa – Shanghai China Trade and Investment Cooperation Forum also took place alongside the official opening which welcomed over 100 key dignitaries, attendees and media.

Miss Jiang Hongxia, deputy director of Investment Promotion Department for SCOFCOM, discussed the investment environment of Shanghai. It was identified at the forum that SCOFCOM is actively implementing the consensus reached between Chinese President Xi Jingping and South African President Zuma on economic cooperation, aiming to deepen investment between the two countries.

“This forum, held under the auspices of the Department of Foreign Investment Promotion of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce (SCOFCOM), has played a fundamental role in highlighting key trade relations between South Africa and China and more particularly between Shanghai and the province of KwaZulu-Natal,” said COO Binu Pillai.
