Singapore Secures Large Events
According to media reports, Singapore secured several large-scale events in the first half of 2017 ranging from world congresses to regional exhibitions to conferences. Some of the events will be held for the first time in Southeast Asia bringing Singapore an additional 20,000 visitors.
Recently confirmed congresses include: International Urogynecological Association (IUGA) Annual Meeting to be held in 2021 featuring some 1,200 healthcare professionals; the 20th International Congress of Endocrinology (ICE) in 2022 with more than 4,000 endocrinologists; and the World Congress of Anaesthesiologists (WCA) in 2024, targeting 8,000 delegates. Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) will bring two events, the 46th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (IECON) in 2020 featuring 1,300 overseas attendees; and IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing in 2022 with about 2,000 attendees. The two congresses will be held for the first time in Southeast Asia.
In addition, some new exhibitions will be held in Singapore next year including: the International Luxury Travel Mart (ILTM) Asia-Pacific which will take place at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre from 21st to 24th May and is expected to attract around 1,400 visitors. Campus Party will be held from 6th to 8th July at Singapore Expo bringing some 1,000 visitors.
Singapore Tourism Board (STB) deputy chief executive, Melissa Ow, stated, “These event wins attest to Singapore’s strength as a trusted partner to deliver event success. Beyond our infrastructure and empowering business environment, Singapore’s attractiveness as a business events destination is bolstered by our distinctive multi-cultural lifestyle experiences and the dedication and support of our local associations and industry partners.”
