UBM Pharma Portfolio Will Debut CPhI Southeast Asia 2012 in Jakarta

April 22, 2012

UBM continues to expand its worldwide portfolio adding to UBM Live’s Pharma division a new show, CPhI Southeast Asia 2012, which will focus on the pharmaceutical ingredient sector in the ASEAN region.

The show will debut May 10-12 at the Jakarta International Expo in Indonesia.

"The ASEAN pharma market represents huge potential for companies looking to expand operations. Notably, there is strong interest in R&D for generics in this region, which are expected to grow from 8.3 percent of the total market in 2010 to 12.8 percent by 2015, when they will be worth USD $12.3 billion," said Andrew Pert, UBM Live Regional Director.

He added, "Beyond generics, the Indonesian Pharmaceutical Association, GP Farmasi, forecasts a market value of USD 4.9 billion in 2012 which represents an increase of 10-12% year over year(1). The growth rate is phenomenal and UBM Live is pleased to debut CPhI Southeast Asia in 2012 to support this emerging market."

Several high profile international pharma firms are on tap to exhibit, including Boehringer Ingelheim, Phapros, and the Mensa Group, along with exhibitors in the steadily growing natural extract sector such as Javaplant and Semarang Herbal.

The event also will have support from international organizations Pharmexcil India, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and the China Chamber of Commerce for Import & Export of Medicine and Health Products (CCCMHPIE).

A rise in the standard of living in Indonesia has created strong growth in the pharmaceutical market, according to UBM officials.

The growth has also impacted the import value of pharmaceutical raw materials, which is projected to reach up to USD $1.39 billion this year, about 11 to 15 percent higher than last year, according to a recent article in Indonesia Finance Today.

The event will feature a zoned format that will make it easy to navigate, with zones for APIs, intermediates, natural extracts, biopharmaceuticals, custom manufacturing, fine chemicals, excipients/formulations and a general zone for the crossover between the different zones.

There also will be international pavilions for attendees visiting from across the globe and more specifically the China and India Pavilions will offer contact with partners in the greater Asia pharmaceutical market.

Other shows scheduled in UBM Live’s portfolio include ICSE USA May 22-23 at the Pennsylvania Convention Centre in Philadelphia,  CPhI, ICSE, P-MEC InnoPack and BioPh China June 26-28 at the SNIEC in Shanghai and CPhI, ICSE and BioPh South America Aug. 21-23 at the Transamerica Expo Center in Sao Paulo.
