Asian Association of Convention and Visitor Bureaus Changes Membership Structure
The Asian Association of Convention and Visitor Bureaus has changed its membership structure to better serve the MICE industry organizations across the Asian region, according to AACVB officials.
The new membership structure will extend membership opportunities to provincial and city-level CVBs and will be in three membership tiered groups – Full CVB Member, Associate CVB Member and Associate Industry .
With this new structure, membership in AACVB now will be available to MICE destination marketing organizations, venue operators, destination marketing companies, professional conference organizers and associations that want to be more involved in regional cooperation and develop more business leads.
“After 28 years of collaborating and building relationships with fellow CVBs at the country level, the time has come for us to open our doors to other professional organizations in the MICE industry in Asia,” said Akapol Sorasuchart, president of AACVB.
He added, “With the Asian economies growing at a steady pace despite the debt crisis that has plagued Europe and the U.S., this is a great opportunity for Asia to rise to the challenge and tap on the opportunities presented in the business travel segment. This is a timely development for us to grow our capability and strength to attract more MICE events to Asia’s beautiful shores and cities.”
The AACVB was formed in 1983 to foster regional cooperation between convention and visitor bureaus in the Asian region. The Association aims to promote the region as an ideal convention destination, where member countries will have the ability to network, share business leads, best practices, market intelligence and raise industry standards to elevate the region’s appeal as a destination of choice.
The founding CVB members include Indonesia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea and Thailand. They were later joined by China and Macau to create the nine founding member countries of AACVB.
In addition to the updated membership structure, the AACVB also announced the lineup for this year’s Asia for Asia summit.
The theme will be “Asia Rising: Future of Meetings” and the summit will be held Oct. 20 at TravelRave, on tap Oct. 17-22 at the Suntec Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centre.
