MedTech Association and MD&M East Partner for Inaugural New York Medtech Week

June 27, 2016

UBM America's largest East Coast medical technology event, Medical Design & Manufacturing (MD&M) East, and MedTech Association, a membership-based trade association for the bioscience and medical technology (Bio/Med) industry in New York State, partnered for the inaugural New York Medtech Week, which was held June 14-16 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City.

The New York Medtech Week was conceived as a week-long initiative highlighting the numerous innovations and medical device companies based in New York State that save lives throughout the region and the rest of the world.

New York State Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul will kicked off New York Medtech Week June 14, prior to the opening of MD&M East's Expo.

Hochul provided remarks on the critical role the medical device industry plays in the New York State economy and the many state resources available to companies looking to grow or locate in New York. She also welcomed attendees to the event at a ribbon cutting ceremony.

"Under Governor Cuomo, our state continues to strategically invest in the bioscience and medical technology industry," said Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul.

She added, "Through the Regional Economic Development Councils, START-UP NY and other creative initiatives, we are building on our past successes and working to attract additional related businesses. By creating a pipeline of trained professionals, we will ensure that this critical industry continues to thrive and support thousands of jobs."

As the cornerstone event within the most comprehensive advanced manufacturing show on the East Coast, MD&M East covers the entire end-to-end product development process of medical device manufacturing. The expo showcases cutting-edge technology from more than 500 leading suppliers.

"We are thrilled to be partnering with UBM and proud to be hosting New York State's first Medtech Week," said MedTech President Jessica Crawford. "New York is the eighth largest medical device industry in the nation, accounting for more than 13,000 jobs and $4.6 billion in economic impact. MD&M East is the perfect event to celebrate the many accomplishments of the medical device industry in our state."

"We're honored to host Lt. Governor Hochul at New York Medtech Week, as she opens the MD&M East Expo and welcomes the local medical device community to explore the latest innovations -- many from the region's top suppliers," said Stephen Corrick, senior vice president and portfolio director of UBM Americas' Advanced Manufacturing group.

He added, "Her presence and support demonstrates the profound impact of the medical technology and advanced manufacturing industries on New York State."
