SmartSource Donates Technology to Help Those In Need
SmartSource Computer & Audio Visual Rentals, provider of computer, audio-visual and technology solutions for businesses and events, has been going out of its way to help people in need in the Orlando and Los Angeles communities.
Through local Solutions Architect Scott Hill’s volunteer work with the Orlando Regional Tech Association, the company recently donated several laptops and iPads to the Community Hope Center in Kissimmee, Florida, a program-based project that impacts low-income, poverty level families and individuals living in and around Osceola County, Florida.
Through this tech contribution, SmartSource is directly helping the Center restore the dignity and self-sufficiency of individuals in need through its holistic approach to case management, funds assistance and life skills, according to SmartSource officials.
“As an extension of our Company Core Values at SmartSource, community service and charitable work are an important part of what we believe in as an organization, so we are proud to support the Orlando Tech Association in its role of promoting the use of technology for local charities and startups,” said Steve Rupolo, vice president of product strategy at SmartSource.
He continued, “The Community Hope Center is doing great things for its local region by giving essential assistance to help low-income individuals gain the skills they need to get back on their feet.”
SmartSource also recently served as a sponsor for a progressive training program offered by GlobalGirl Media, which develops the voices of young women from underserved communities through digital media training.
Open to 20 young women ages 14-22, GGM’s free Summer Media Training Program is offered in partnership with Women’s Voices Now, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to empower young women from underserved communities through digital journalism and media training.
SmartSource provided four Apple MacBook Pro laptops that the participants used during the month-long program at the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism in Los Angeles.
The company’s participation in this important initiative came at the suggestion of Account Manager Elizabeth Mora, who had served on one of SmartSource’s accounts, AFI FEST, a program of the American Film Festival, and was approached by her client contact who subsequently joined GlobalGirl Media.
“The GlobalGirl Media mission is one our organization supports wholeheartedly,” said Lauri Christiansen, SmartSource director of marketing.
She continued, “Giving young girls the opportunity to develop skills in the world of journalism and gain an outlet for their voices to be heard is a worthy objective, particularly in our current times. We are very proud to be a supporter of a program that helps pave the way for internships and potential employment for girls for whom these opportunities may not otherwise exist.”
