Temperatures are soaring across the U.S., and what’s typically a slower time in the trade show industry is filled instead with a bevy of industry meetings.

Destination Marketing Association International’s Annual Convention is on tap July 16-18 in Seattle and will kick off with an opening keynote by Jason Ryan Dorsey, known as “The Gen Y Guy”, who will discuss “Crossing the Generational Divide: Leveraging the Power of Generations for Your Strategic Advantage.”

Sourcing Snow Trade Show Will Debut Alongside 2013 SIA Snow Show

A task force comprised of snow sports industry representatives recently met in Denver to discuss and approve plans for a new trade show entitled Sourcing Snow.

The new event is member-owned by the textile and material suppliersand will be collocated with the 2013 SIA Snow Showon tap Jan. 30-Feb. 1 at the Colorado Convention Center’s Mile High Ballroom.

UFI Joins Forces with EMECA to Form European Exhibition Industry Alliance

EMECA, the European Major Exhibition Centres Association, and UFI, the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry, have signed an agreement to create the European Exhibition Industry Alliance. 

This new alliance will bring together Europe’s leading exhibition associations in a coordinated effort to promote awareness of the vital contribution that the exhibition industry plays to economic development and job creation, according to UFI officials.

PMMI Picks James Carville, Dennis Miller for Joint Speaking Engagement at PACK EXPO 2012

The Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Institute is giving attendees to PACK EXPO International 2012, Oct. 28-31 at Chicago’s McCormick Place, a two-for-one lecture special with James Carville and Dennis Miller taking part in a joint session.

“We’ll be barely a week away from the 2012 Presidential election,” said PMMI president & CEO Charles D. Yuska.

He added, “No matter which way you vote, this pair of pundits will offer unique perspectives on the elections and the issues in the national spotlight.”

IAEE Public Events Council Releases Survey Report to Evaluate Public Events Industry 2011

The International Association of Exhibitions and Events Public Events Council released its “Public Events Industry 2011” survey report and “Supplemental Report: How the Public Event/Consumer Show Engages with the Younger Generations/Professionals.”

In 2009, the Public Events Council distributed a survey to public event organizers across 22 public events industry sectors to examine overall industry performance.

The report identified which public event industry sectors fared well, which sectors struggled and their expectations for the future.

Center for Exhibition Industry Research Releases Predict Conference Line Up

The Center for Exhibition Industry Research will hold its 2nd Annual Predict Conference Sept. 13 in New York City at the Time Warner Center.

The event will be limited to C-level executives and will focus on the results of the CEIR Index, which provides an objective measure of the annual performance of the exhibition industry, measuring year-over-year changes and predictions through 2014.

National Association of Home Builders Signs Pact to Bring More Chinese Manufacturers to Annual Show

The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) has signed a memorandum of understanding with a major Chinese trade association that will bring a large number of additional manufacturers and product options to the annual NAHB International Builders’ Show January 2013 in Las Vegas, according to NAHB officials.  

National Association of Convenience Stores Offers Attendees Virtual Event

More and more shows are realizing that attendees want to be engaged more than just a few days on a physical showfloor.

As a result, organizations such as the National Association of Convenience Stores are taking their events into the virtual world.

The 2012 NACS Show Virtual site will allow retailers to experience the NACS Show before, during and after the live event, which takes place October 7-10 in Las Vegas.

Farias-Barlow Selected as IAEE's Legend of the Industry for 2012 IAEE Krakoff Leadership Institute

Patricia Farias-Barlow has been selected as the International Association of Exhibitions and Events’ 2012 "Legend of the Industry" for this year's IAEE Krakoff Leadership Institute to be held May30-June 1 at the Fairmont Hotel in Washington, D.C., as part of IAEE's Mid-Year Meeting.

The Krakoff Leadership Institute provides professional development for a group of industry professionals who were selected by the Krakoff Leadership Institute Committee as the industry's future leaders based on their application and extensive review.

First DMO in Asia Completes DMAI's Destination Marketing Accreditation Program

The Daejeon International Marketing Enterprise of Daejeon, South Korea, is the first destination marketing organization in Asia to successfully achieve the honor of accreditation from the Destination Marketing Accreditation Program (DMAP).

DMAP is an industry-wide accreditation program developed by Destination Marketing Association International to recognize DMOs that meet or exceed industry standards, has accredited 138 DMOs on three continents.
