Ken McAvoy Joins Informa Global Exhibitions Division as Head of Corporate Development

Trade show industry veteran Ken McAvoy was named to a new position, executive vice president, Corporate Development of Global Exhibitions Division of Informa.

In that role, McAvoy will have responsibility for corporate development, operations and procurement, including venue/hotel selection and negotiations and other vendor management, with a particular focus on North America.

Convention Business in the Fall is Slated to Bring in $300 million to Las Vegas

Las Vegas is geared up to welcome thousands of trade show attendees for Fall 2016, with meetings and conventions expected to bring in more than $300 million in direct visitor spending.

International Association for Venue Managers Names Ronald Melton as COO/CFO

The International Association of Venue Managers has named Ronald Melton as the organization’s new COO/CFO.

“We are thrilled to have Ron leading vital teams inside our organization.” said Brad Mayne, CFE, IAVM President and CEO.

He added, “Ron’s background in our industry, coupled with his operational expertise, gives our members a strong proponent in professional growth and greater success as an association. I personally look forward to working with Ron as we look for new ways to bring more value to our members.”

GL Events Forms JV to Build Convention Centre in Guangzhou

GL Events signed a joint venture agreement with the Yuexiu Group to build a new convention centre in Guangzhou. GL Events was represented by Mr. Olivier Ginon and the Yuexiu Group was represented by Mr. Zhang Zhaoxing.

The opening of the first phase is planned to be completed in 2019 and will feature a 50,000 m2 convention centre in centre of Guangzhou. The Guangzhou Yuexiu International Congress Centre will be located in the historic Yuexiu district of Guangzhou. GL Events aims to develop the venue into a major facility for large conferences and international corporate events.

Koelnmesse Partners to Launch Dental Show in Indonesia

Indonesia Dental Exhibition & Conference, billed as the first comprehensive dental event in Jakarta, will be jointly organised by the partnership between Koelnmesse, the Indonesian Dental Association (PDGI – Persatuan Dokter Gigi Indonesia) and PT. Traya Eksibisi Internasional (Three Events).The inaugural edition of the event will take place from 15th to 17th of September 2017.

Global Sources’ Mobile Electronics Features 2,600+ Booths

Earlier this week, NASDAQ-listed Global Sources opened its Mobile Electronics exhibition running from 18th to 21st October at Hong Kong’s AsiaWorld-Expo (AWE). Featuring some 2,600 booths, the show focused on smartphones, tablets, wearable devices and mobile accessories.
