The International Association of Venue Managers awarded the 2016 Convention Center Lifetime Achievement Award to Georgia World Congress Center Authority (GWCCA) Executive Director Frank Poe, an IAVM member since Jan. 1, 1980.
The Lifetime Achievement Award, which will be presented during the 2016 International Convention Center Conference in Pasadena, Calif., recognizes individuals who have had a significant impact on the convention center industry and the IAVM community.

Automechanika Chicago, a trade show dedicated to high-end technical and management-related training for automotive collision and service repair shops, along with NACE (the International Autobody Congress & Exposition), an event for the collision repair industry, have signed a letter of intent to combine forces starting in 2017.
The co-production between Automechanika Chicago and NACE will create a unified stage using NACE's strong relationships within the collision and OE community, combined with Automechanika Chicago's global strength throughout the automotive aftermarket.

The International Association of Exhibitions and Events has unveiled the recipients of the 2016 Helen Brett Scholarship awards: Sarah Chung, Jordan Lacey and Mackenzie Thompson.
The Helen Brett Scholarship was established by Robert Kolinek and named for his grandmother, Helen Brett, who was a pioneer in the trade show industry.
The purpose of the scholarship is to assist individuals who are exploring the study of exhibitions and events management with the end goal of advancing their career in this field.

The 2017 PROCESS EXPO, the trade show for the food processing industry, produced by The Food Processing Suppliers Association, has sold more than 165,000 square feet of exhibit space to 264 companies to date, more than 75 percent of its floor space.
PROCESS EXPO will take place Sept. 19-2 in the North Hall of McCormick Place in Chicago and will also feature many international exhibitors, as a result of its partnership with three German Messes who organize three food-focused trade fairs.

Still marking the 24th consecutive quarter of growth, the overall trade show industry’s upward trajectory has slowed down some during the second quarter of 2016.
Mirroring the sluggish macro economy and declining corporate profits, the trade show industry’s performance, as measured by the CEIR Total Index, posted a modest year-on-year gain of 1.6 percent in Q2 of this year, compared with 3.7 percent in the fourth quarter of 2015 and 2.6 percent in the first quarter of 2016.

In October 2023, the Orange County Board of County Commissioners voted to approve allocating Tourist Development Tax funding for the $560 million Phase 5A completion of the OCCC. The Convention Way Grand Concourse project will include enhancements to the North-South Building, featuring an additional 60,000 square feet of meeting space, an 80,000- square-foot ballroom and new entry to the North-South Building along Convention Way.
