There seems to be no slowing down for the Chinese exhibition industry, with the country posting the most growth in five years, as well as a plethora of new centers being built. UFI, The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry, released the 10th edition of its annual Report on the Trade Fair Industry in Asia, and net space sold in the overall Asian trade show market jumped by 6.6 percent in 2013 to more than 17.3 million net square meters (186 million net square feet), compared with 16.31 million net sq. m. Reed Sinopharm Exhibitions, a joint venture between Reed Exhibitions, the world’s leading events organizer, and Sinopharm, China's largest state-owned pharmaceutical group, will launch The Health Industry Summit (“tHIS”) next year in Shanghai. This new event, to be held May 15-18 at the National Exhibition and Conference Center, which is the world’s largest single block exhibition complex, will combine a Summit program of more than 100 conferences with a massive 260,000 sqm exhibition area. Last week, Hong Kong-listed Pico Far East Holdings announced its interim results for the six months ended April 30. Revenues were US$214 million, a slight increase by 1.7 percent, compared with the same period in 2013. However, profits in the period dropped by 7.1 percent year-on-year, to US$11 million. Dilute earnings per share in the six-month period were HK$0.0713 (US$0.0092). Earlier this week, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council(HKTDC) published its annual report for the financial year ended 31st March 2014. Revenues generated from exhibitions and trade missions were US$240 million, a year-on-year growth of 14%. Overall, the HKTDC’s total revenues, including the government subvention of US$50 million, were US$353 million, up 9.6%.   Revenues from product magazines & online marketplace were US$25 million, an increase of 2.2% over 2013. The Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) will organise its first Business Events Week (BEW) to showcase key insights, challenges and growth opportunities in Malaysia’s business events industry. The first BEW will be themed “Exceeding Expectations” targeting attendance from local Malaysian industry players. The event will take place from 14th to 21st August 2014 at the Pullman Kuala Lumpur Bangsar. Bangkok Exhibition Services Ltd, a member company of the Allworld Exhibition Alliance, will launch its new CommuniCast Myanmar at a new larger venue, Myanmar Event Park, from 18th to 20th November 2014. Myanmar Event Park, located at the West central side of Yangon, will offer 6,000 m2 of exhibition space, which can accommodate more exhibitors as well as hosting concurrent associated industry events. Messe Frankfurt’s 24th edition of Interior Lifestyle Tokyo was recently concluded at the Tokyo Big Sight attracting 819 exhibitors from 27 countries and regions. According to Messe Frankfurt, 607 exhibitors were from Japan and 212 originated from overseas. The three-day show took place from 4th to 6th June 2014 and occupied five exhibition halls. In the past 23 years, as Galaxy evolved to modern-day Experient, Mike Godsey has not only seen the once omnipresent magstripe come to life, but also its demise, followed immediately by its evolution into what is being used today for lead retrieval on the showfloor.
