Billed as the world’s largest trade fair, the Canton Fair held biannually in Guangzhou China, closed its doors in early May with numbers that were only slightly up.
Difficult financial and job market conditions in Europe and the United States impacted the show, though less than what was expected, according to organizers.
There were approximately 210,000 buyers from 213 countries, up 0.23 percent and 1.23 percent from the 110th and 109th sessions in 2011, respectively.

A new exhibition for the brewing and beverage manufacturing industries, BevTec Asia 2014, will be launched by Germany’s Messe Duesseldorf and Asian Exhibition Services in collaboration with the with the Thailand Beer Industry Guild.
The show, scheduled February 2014 at the Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Center, will take advantage of the growth in Thailand’s alcoholic and non-alcoholic manufacturing sectors.

Not only will Automechanika Shanghai break records for the size of its showfloor when it opens Dec. 11-14 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre in China, but show organizers also said they expect a record number of exhibitors and attendees.

Kuala Lumpur jumped two places in the International Congress & Convention Center Association’s world convention city rankings and three places in the Asia-Pacific region’s ranking based on the number of international association meetings held in 2011, said Zulkefli Hj. Sharif, CEO of the Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB).
Kuala Lumpur staged 78 international association meetings, finishing 21st in the world and securing the top five position in Asia Pacific.

Suntec International Convention and Exhibition Services is part of the ‘VeNuSW’ consortium bidding to design, build and operate the Sydney International Convention, Exhibition and Entertainment Precinct (SICEEP) at Darling Harbour. Vinexpo Asia-Pacific, opened at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) last week – with a record 1,050 exhibitors from 28 countries.
The three-day trade show ran from 29th to 31st May, and attracted over 15,000 visitors this year – compared with 12,617 in 2010. The organiser of the show estimated more than 50 percent of visitors were from overseas, with Asian visitors from China, Malaysia, Japan, Taiwan and Thailand seeing strong growth.

The Gwangju Convention and Visitor Bureau has announced plans to expand the exhibition facilities at the Kimdaejung Convention Center (KDJCC). At a cost of US$60 million, an additional 18,000 square meters of exhibition and convention space will be added to bring the total venue space up to 53,000 square meters.

Reed Exhibitions and the Indonesian Panorama Group have formed Reed Panorama Exhibitions (RPE), a joint venture which plans to organise trade shows in Indonesia. As part of the partnership arrangement, Panorama Group’s MICE division, Panorama Convex Indah, will be rolled into RPE and renamed Panorama Meetings and Events.
