NASDAQ-listed Global Sources announced several key changes to take place at senior management level. Chief information officer Bill Georgiou will retire from his post at the end of January 2012 and is expected to take on a consultant role for the company. Georgiou will be replaced by current chief operating officer Peter Zapf, and the company’s general manager of content & community development, Brent Barnes, will take over the role of COO effective Feb. 1.

According to various media reports, exhibition space in Jakarta is set to double by 2014, as an extra 150,000 square meters of exhibition space will be added through the addition of three to four newly-built venues.
The largest addition, named the Alam Sutera International Exhibition and Convention Center, will contribute an expected 100,000 sq. m. of exhibition space, as well as a plenary hall, which will seat 10,000 for conventions. Sydney jumped an impressive 17 spots to snag the No. 10 ranking out of 364 global business destinations on the 2010 International Convention & Congress Association List.
Within the Asia-Pacific region, Sydney is ranked as the No. 2 business events destination, second only to Singapore.
In 2010, Sydney hosted almost half of the total number of meetings attributed to Australian cities.

According to UBM Asia officials, Duck has been instrumental in the company’s growth since its establishment in 1994, particularly in Hong Kong, China and the U.S.

Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre Management (HML) was presented the Award for Organisation with the Highest Amount of Carbon Footprint Reduction and the Carbon “Less” 14% Certificate of the Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence (HKAEE) in recognition of HML’s efforts in carbon reduction during 2009.
HML had participated in the program for the first time and, according to HML officials, was “glad to have achieved a total of 14% carbon reduction, which is far more than the minimum requirement.”

The Info Salons Group, an event technology group, celebrated 21 years in the business last week. The company was founded in Australia offering event registration solutions. Info Salons now has 150 staff across offices in Sydney, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Dubai. The company’s first European office is due to open in London later this year. MCH Swiss Exhibition (Basel) Ltd., a MCH Group subsidiary, announced it will acquire a 60-percent stake in Asian Art Fairs Limited, the organizer of the Hong Kong International Art Fair (ART HK). The deal will be completed July 1, and the MCH Group has the option of acquiring the remaining 40 percent shares in Asian Art Fairs Limited in 2014. No financial details were disclosed.

NASDAQ-listed Global Sources recently released its results for the quarter ended 31st March 2011. Revenues were $37.5 million, up 5.6 percent, compared with the $35.5 million recorded in the same quarter in 2010. Net income in the period was $3.5 million – a year-on-year decrease of 4.3 percent from $3.7 million in 2010. Diluted earnings per share in the quarter were $0.10.

The biannual China Import and Export Fair (Canton Fair), organized by the China Foreign Trade Centre and Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM), concluded with a reported 207,000 international visitors - a 5.8-percent increase, compared with more than 2010, setting a new record high. According to the organiser, the fair reportedly facilitated $36.8 billion worth of trade deals.
Organisers claimed trade with the Middle East dropped 11 percent in terms of volume due to the political unrest in that region.

In October 2023, the Orange County Board of County Commissioners voted to approve allocating Tourist Development Tax funding for the $560 million Phase 5A completion of the OCCC. The Convention Way Grand Concourse project will include enhancements to the North-South Building, featuring an additional 60,000 square feet of meeting space, an 80,000- square-foot ballroom and new entry to the North-South Building along Convention Way.
